Ok, ok, so I lied a little bit. Anyone who gradjeated elementary school can see that there's only 14 doves there. I'll 'splain about that in a minute.

It would have been a great morning for duck hunting if, in fact, our duck season were open. But it's not. And all the corn fields have now been cut, so there's hundreds of doves flocking in the fields.I figured I'd try to get in one last shoot. Our late dove season is Nov 7 - 30, but deer season opens Saturday, and duck season opens the 24th. I won't care about doves then.

As I said, a great "ducky" morning - temp in the 30's with precipitation somewhere between a drizzle and a sprinkle. My hand is still swollen, and I have some trouble moving my index finger, but I taped it up so I could hold my gun properly. I wasn't sure how well I was going to be able to shoot, but I had to find out before Saturday. Turned out, it wasn't so bad. I went through about 1 1/2 boxes of shells to hit 15 birds, so my ratio was better than I expected. I had dropped 14 doves, and thought "one more will be my limit". About that time, the drizzle/sprinkle turned into a cold rain that was running down my neck. Just as I was fixin' to call it quits, a small squadron came winging by. I hit #15, and he folded and tumbled right into a bramble thicket. I poked around the edges to try and see him, but all those big thorns made a 14-bird limit sound pretty reasonable.

Got home and cleaned them in Sandie's kitchen sink (don't tell), 'cause I was soaked to the bone and too cold to stand out there cleaning them on the tailgate. Those birds were full of more corn than Carrot-Top's stage act. It was a wonder they could fly at all.

Looking forward to a supper of dove breast, wrapped in bacon, from the grill.

nice shootin

sometimes birds land in places where you cant get them, all you can do is try. I try not to make it happen often, but just count it towards my limit. Figure its the best thing to do in a less than perfect situation

Bob, deer season opens Saturday. I'm just killin' time (and a few doves) while I wait for it to get here. Then, on the 24th, DUCK SEASON!!!!

Ducxprt, I went through about 1 1/2 boxes (around 30 - 32 shots - don't know exactly). Not a bad ratio for being handicapped by a tore-up trigger hand.

But wouldn't you prefer to have a chance to bag a few yourself? I'd hate to beat you to all of 'em. Rolling Eyes

You know I'm just raggin' on you. I can't get cocky. The way I shoot, I have stellar days where I just can't seem to miss - and other days where I could fall out of a boat and miss the water. Go figure....... It was just one of my "on" days.
