And yeah it is a pretty good incognito, but I use a different handle on every website I go to. Same profile so I'm not hiding anything but just see what all I can come up with.

Hey cmatt, looks like your comments didn't have much of an effect on him. The goodnews is you may be one of the "7".

LDD, do you think that he is a little riled up? I just quit responding to anything he says. I am pretty sure I know a few people like him. You know the ones who talk just to hear themselves talk and then tell themselves how important they are? I was worried about him when he wasn't on the site for quite a while cause I never wish harm on anyone, but now that I know he is fine, I wouldn't mind him shutting it for a while. Heck, even stump jumper is back on there and isn't causing as much trouble and that is saying something! Good job keeping him going though LDD!! 8)

Man I know I should ignor him but he's just so damn annoying and then the lying thing to boot. I just find it hard to give him a pass, particularly when he starts in on others. He spouts his garbage on me...fine but when he starts attacking others I'm going to get in there with him. I gotta stand up for my boys.

I tried to ask why the hen thing and spinning wing decoy stuff is such a big thing, but things got so hostile no one bother to answer.I understand, there were things said that were uncalled for.
Just because some don't agree withe the methods others use.As far as hens go,what I shoot I eat and as long as I follow the law and hunt ethically,I have no trouble with it.The decoy thing,if you got it and want to use it,use if you don't like the things, doon't buy it or use it.
We all have differnet ideas about how to do things,no need to force a paricular idea on others.

Does shooting hens (within limits) have a drastic/harmful effect on the population ?

I am kinda new at waterfowl hunting (started around 03/04),so I'm still learning. Most on here and DU are pretty good about giving advice and info.To all those who have taken the time to help a rookie on his way,THANKS

Great question and some of us have tried to answer it but the foolishness overshadowed it.

No the harvest of hens within the current limit has no biological effect infact in most years and in most situations even the 2 hen limit is unnecessary.

The way ducks are managed our hunting of them has very little impact on their population, that's how they are managed based on some of the most extensive scientific study ever done on a critter, the mallard duck. When our hunting has even the slightest chance of impacting a duck population the hunting on them is restricted (hence the scaup limit) or closed (cans).

Now keep in mind, mallards are the only duck to have its limit managed by sex, yet despite liberal bag limits and much smaller populations those ducks managed that way not only haven't had their populations impacted, in alot of cases they've actually grown. Geese which also can't be distinguished by sex in the air haven't been impacted in the least due to hunting.

There is alot of interesting explainations and dynamics but I do want to give you a couple things to chew as final thoughts:

#1- Limits has been shown to be a very very poor way to regulating harvest, by far the best way is number of days. Lots of people seem to feel they can trade limit size for days but that is not scientificly prudent and its funny to me how folks who are so concerned about Mama duck won't be willing to give up a minute of hunting time even though that would make much more sense than doing something with the limit.

#2 Even without a hen limit hunters hen harvest is still only about 13% of the total harvest. Lots of reasons for this and I should add this also isn't scientifitly prudent to management

#3 How dare you mess up my venting thread with a good question.....just kidding Anytime you have a question about something fire away. I' tell you what I know.

Dux is very good at deleting or editing his posts as fast as he can. He is kinda an idiot that way. I think, though, that we might have him scared off a little, because he has deleted a lot of stuff and hasn't said anything in a couple of days. We all know that he isn't fishing. :D :D :D :D :D

Are you talking about the one Duke made on the Admin Forum for a Team Barney Forum...that one is priceless.

I saw some comments that DUX had started another thread that he was getting rocked on so he must have deleted it. I never saw it but I'm sure I got thrown under the bus a bunch. It probably gave tripod wood though so I guess it wasn't a total loss.
