Post First hunts planned? Reply with quote
Hey Everybody,

I was just curious if everyone has their first hunts of the season planned or if they are still wondering what to do and where to go like I am? Since our early teal season comes first in our waterfowl seasons, I am thinking teal hunt in the marshes of the rainwater basin. May have to go after some early season geese in our east unit since it opens about the same time though.

Possible heading up to Indiana sometime early Sept. to hunt Canada's... Not sure as of yet.

Other than that just waiting patiently and trying to avoid going back to the Opening Day website with the countdown clock.

Wont know for sure until a few days before. Right now anything can happen. Birds are going to start bouncing around, fields are going to get eaten out, the molt migration will kick in, birds just up and move to a different area, they could all of a sudden disapear.... the list goes on.

I have gone scouting once and that was last night. We sat and watched our field for like a half hour and then wondered why we were scouting because season is still 3 weeks away. Dont get me wrong we know where all the birds are and the major roosts but following them to the fields right now is almost pointless.

Yeah, I wish our Game and Parks Dept. would get the seasons out a little sooner than they do. Kinda hard to make plans for the early season stuff when you don't know about it until a week before.

This weekend is our youth days. I am planning on taken one kid out Saturday and another one on Sunday. There aren't many birds around, but hopefully we can get each of them at least one. After that, I will probably hunt the same blind on the river in a couple of weeks when the rest of it opens and some birds come down from up north. Gonna get my deer and antelope before that, though.
