I know just about everyone has made thier own decoys at least once. What is the best way to expand your spread without hurtin your pocket? Show pics if you got em.

I had a ton of black and white silos, but I burned em all this fall to make room in the shed. Now with the price of wood on the rise. It cost the same amount to make a dozen silos as if you were buyin real geese silos or outlaws.

Well we didnt exactly make new ones, but we spotted a bunch of Canvas backs so we took some old mallard dekes and painted them like Canvas Backs. They actully looked awesome except we never saw those Canvas Backs Again.lol

I repainted some of our OLD mallards to goldeneyes. The beaks aren't the right shape, but by the time the birds are close enough to see that, we are shooting. They actually were really easy to paint, and add a lot to the spread in late season.

I am currently in the process of making snow goose silos for myself since I only own a dozen of them already and that is the extent of my snow goose spread. I am tracing the silos that I bought onto thin (1/4") plywood and cutting them out and painting them. Pretty simple, just a little time consuming. No idea if it will work on the geese by the way! Lol.

I too have done the "paint old mallard decoys as something else." I painted some of my old hens as hen pintails. I have some drakes, but some of my hens broke so I needed to replace them. A little paint later, and instant pintail!
